Do you get home late like I do? Are you struggling to balance work and home duties?
I had been struggling with this for quite some time until I finally managed to find a routine. I hope my routine can help you too and to become that supermom you wish to be without overworking too much and to still get time to yourself!
The first week will be the hardest, but just after one week, you will see what a difference this routine makes.
This is what I do:
I get home around 9pm. I know it's too late, but if this works for me, then I am sure you will be able to pick up some great tips!
So as soon as you get home, after the bra and shoes come off, do not sit down! As soon as you sit down after a long, hard day, there is no way you will be able to get yourself up and complete those tasks that have your name written all over them. It will become one of those, "I will do it tomorrow" situations. Then the next day comes, and we so want to kick our yesterday selves for doing that.
First thing I do when I get home is to wash my hands and get straight to cooking. "The sooner you start, the sooner you finish," as my mom always told me. (Thanks for the great advice, mom!)
While I am in the kitchen, I also try to clean as I go, and while I am waiting for certain items to cook, I also try to do a quick speed clean around the house. If I am unable to do the speed clean while I cook, then I will do a quick one after doing the dishes.
Now I know you are thinking, wow, this sounds like a lot of work, but set a timer for just 10 minutes. You will be surprised by what you can do in that time. Once the time is up, if you still have a few things that need your attention (especially during the first few days after you start and have a huge mess), then you get to that tomorrow. By the end of the week, you will realize that you have caught up with each room in the house. Then your 10-minute speed clean can maybe be moved to a 5-minute speed clean.
With this becoming a routine, you will also find yourself planning dinner in advance or even on your drive home.
This whole process takes me about an hour and a half, and that includes having dinner with my family. Also, if there are some recipes that you would like to make that need time to prepare or marinate, you could use this time to start the prep for the next day so that tomorrow's task would be much faster and easier for you.
Once I am done with this whole process, I know that the rest of the evening is mine to relax!
I usually like to then dive right into my favorite part of the day and pamper myself with my night-time routine.
If you would like to know more about my night-time routine, please leave me a comment.
